1 – A journey to a healthier you (and me)
Author: Professor Joyce Harper
I decided to post a personal message on Global Women Connected about my long term issue with weight and food. I was amazed at the wonderful responses that I got with so many friends sharing their food battles.
Many women who I think have wonderful figures shared their struggle with keeping fit and healthy – and there was me thinking that they were naturally like that!! So it is a hard journey in todays society when we are surrounded by unhealthy foods – even now in clothes shops!!
My reason for losing weight is not a worry about body image but it is a health reason. I look about 7 months pregnant and I know that this is a serious health issue. Being 52 and the mother of three boys, I want to stay as healthy as I can.
Here is my original post:
I need some love and support from my fellow Global Women. I have been battling with a weight issue all my life but it has been much harder since I have had children and gone through the menopause. I am an emotional eater and I have been having counseling. I eat when I need to think, when I am stressed, when I am lonely. I seriously want to sort this out for myself and for my health. So this summer I am going to try and crack it. I am going to exercise daily and try to only eat healthy food. Any support, advice, guidance anyone has – please post. Thanks.
I have decided to write a daily blog which I will share on Global Women. The one message loud and clear is that processed sugar has to go. Todays exercise consisted of a 2k run, a swim in an outdoor pool (not serious swimming as spent most of the time chatting with my friend) and tennis with my kids. Food intake was good – porridge for breakfast, salad for lunch, lots of fruit and pasta pesto/salad for dinner. I was at friends so I had a small processo and a small wine. And I managed to have no ‘bad’ food. I resisted the bread at dinner and found it easy to not think about sweets and chocolate. So I went to bed feeling very motivated.
