Main causes of death in women

In 2012, an estimated 56 million people died worldwide. The main causes of death obviously varies depending on the country, ethnic group, age and gender (and the source of the information!!).
Noncommunicable diseases were responsible for 68% of all deaths globally in 2012 – cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease. Cardiovascular disease kills 3 in 10 people globally.
In the USA the top 5 causes of death in women are heart disease, cancer, chronic lower respiratory disease, stroke and Alzheimer’s. In the UK the top 5 are dementia and Alzheimer’s, heart disease, stroke, flu/pneumonia and emphysema/bronchitis. Cancer appears in the top 10 in the UK. In Africa the story changes dramatically – HIV/AIDS, lower respiratory tract infection, tuberculosis, maternal hemorrhage and cerebrovascular disease.
