Why do some people take it too far?
The addictive nature of plastic surgery

The UK are currently showing a TV series about celebrity botched up bodies on Channel 5.
Some celebrities spend a fortune and take things too far until they look like wax works. Botox, fillers, peels, nips, tucks. Some of this surgery is irreversible – no matter how much money you have. And many of them deny having any surgery even when it is so obvious.
This week the programme showed the UK pop singer Pete Burns, Donatella Versace (pictured right) and the ex glamour model Alicia Douvall (pictured below).
Alicia has probably had the most surgery in the UK – she has had over 300 operations and looks like she had been in a fight with a wonky face and uneven breasts. Why has she taken it so far? She has been in the press saying that she regrets it and more should be done to protect vulnerable girls like her. She said she could not smile when her baby was born as she has had too much surgery.
For some it becomes a very expensive addiction. It becomes body dysmorphia. They do not see what we see when they look in the mirror.
But in 2014 there was a report by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons saying that plastic surgery is declining. The surgeries that are less popular now are facelifts and nose-jobs. But it seems younger people are having lip implants, botox, huge false eyelashes and other treatments until they look bizarre.
Do some people go too far. What do you think?
