Who should teach sex education?
Author: Professor Joyce Harper
Today Helen and I have been involved in the UK Fertility Health Summit – Choice not chance . We are part of the task force working on a project to include fertility awareness in sex education in schools. We discussed at what age you should start having a family and how we develop sex and fertility education. We will write more about this important meeting but today I would like to ask you – who do you think should teach sex education?
As you can see from the graph below – most people learn about sex from school, followed by friends but the second graph shows that they would rather learn from school and parents. This data is from the Natsal-3 study which interviewed 3408 men and women, aged 17–24 years, from 2010–2012 for third National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles.
