Potential new drug for most aggressive form of breast cancer

New research published yesterday has provided hope for a potential treatment for triple negative breast cancer (the most aggressive form which is hardest to treat). The researched drug, JQ1, works by stopping cancer cells adapting to low oxygen and therefore they are less likely to survive. Cancer cells which have adapted to low oxygen are resistant to standard therapies as they form new blood vessels which allow them to keep growing. In the new research, it was found that tumour growth slowed upon administration of the drug.
