Moderate drinking may not affect female fertility

Drinking fewer than 14 servings of alcohol per week does not affect female fertility, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal.
Researchers looked at the drinking habits of 6,120 Danish women aged 21-45. All women were trying to conceive while in a stable relationship and were not receiving any sort of fertility treatment. Each participant completed a bi-monthly questionnaire for 12 months or until conception occurred.
Women who drank more than 14 servings of alcohol per week had an 18% lower chance of getting pregnant. One serving is around 120ml of wine, one bottle of beer or one shot of spirits.
Official guidelines in many countries, including Denmark, the UK and USA, recommend women trying to conceive should abstain from alcohol.
