Do you enjoy it or does it stress you out?
How long is your commute?
Author: Professor Joyce Harper
When you work in London, chances are that you have to travel for at least an hour to get to work. My commute door to door is 1.5 hours each way. I know this is a long time, but 45 minutes is on a train where I normally get a seat and I work. When I am on the underground I read my kindle – so I get about 30-40 minutes of reading time a day. And for the 10 minutes in the car I listen to the radio. So I use the time pretty effectively and I have the advantage of working in London but living in the countryside.
But I do feel envious when I meet people who walk or cycle to work.
The average American’s commute is 25 minutes, but for those in New York it is 38 minutes. Some would say that a commute for longer than 45 minutes is too long.
But it must relate to the way you are travelling. You may love driving, even if you are in a traffic jam, as it gives you some quiet time or time to listen to some music. You may love the quiet time on a train. But you may hate the traffic jam or hate the crowded train.
And is it costing you too much money?
Is your commute too long? Does your commute stress you out? Is it sucking the life out of you? Or is it acceptable?
