How is your work:life balance?
Author: Professor Joyce Harper
Recently I have seen a few interviews with people who had life threatening diseases and who rethought their work:life balance. Less work and more life. Maybe we should all do this now, rather than wait for a life changing event?
We may be wrapped up in the moment and not realise how hard we are working and how little quality time we are dedicating to ‘me’ time and our family and social life.
We know that every day is different and sometimes we have deadlines we need to meet so our social life may suffer, but this must not happen long term. And taking a few weeks holiday once a year is not enough.
Some people work better taking work home and juggling their time, but others find this can totally invade their life and leave work at the door. Hopefully in 2016, most employers allow flexibility so we can work to our individual style. My employer has a team looking at wellbeing. Happy employees should be more productive.
Emails are one of the tasks that stresses out a lot of people – me included. Some people have a rule that they do not answer emails at the weekend or before 7am and after 7pm. But I prefer to answer mine at these times as I am often too busy during the working day.
The important thing is not to stress about your work:life balance.
How is yours?
