It is good for our health
Are you taking a holiday this summer?
Author: Professor Joyce Harper
A holiday has many health benefits: time to de-stress, relax, have a change of scenery, spend quality time with the family, catch up with friends, try something new. It does not have to cost a lot of money but taking time out from your usual routine, away from home and work, is great for your wellbeing.
If we think about our seven dimensions of wellness – many can be addressed by taking a holiday.
Holidays can take many different forms – from a relaxing time on the beach to an action packed adventure. Whatever we do – here are some excellent reasons to take a holiday:
Making memories – holidays are a very important time to make happy memories. We can often remember the great time we had on previous holidays.
Making quality time – it gives families and friends a chance for quality time together, increasing conversation, play time and bonding.
Reducing stress – being away from work, emails, deadlines, our to-do list is great for our health. We need to ensure that we have time to switch off and reset. Chances are we will be spending more time outside. And when we return from our holiday we will be refreshed and ready for action.
And why not make a holiday play list – let all the family add their favourite tracks?
I hope that you are taking a few weeks off this summer? I know several people who are not because of finances or they say they are too busy. But a holiday does not need to cost the earth – why not do a house swop or Air bnb your house and go camping? Or go and stay with some family or friends.
