The Purple Tent
For many years women have come together in The Red Tent – a place to explore their menstrual cycle and womanhood.
In January 2017, Global Women Connected launched The Purple Tent – a gathering of women who wish to explore their life journey and celebrate womanhood. The aim is to have positive discussions and to leave the meeting feeling motivated and empowered.
We know we do better, individually and collectively, when we encourage and empower one another to enjoy and engage in life. Aimed at women of any age but especially those over 40 years, the Purple Tent is a safe, confidential and welcoming space. We share our experience of womanhood and all its transitions, exploring the impact on health, wellbeing, family and work.
We want to have time to remember who we are, honor being a woman, share and learn from our experiences, and make new connections. Everything discussed during the meetings is kept confidential.
Events are hosted in any comfortable environment and are not for profit. All attending are asked to bring some food to share with the group. We aim for the group size to be about 10 women. As well as getting to know each other, we will discuss a particular topic, such as female icons, digital technology, sleep, exercise, the menopause, hobbies, growing old, loneliness and more.
The first Purple Tent gathering was held in Saffron Walden on 26th January 2017 and the first London event was held on 6th Feb 2017. If you would like to be involved in a Purple Tent event in your area, please contact joyce.harper@ucl.ac.uk.
